Mr. Keller's attitude affirms a belief I have held for many years, that the best companies/leaders are net exporters of talent. This is far from a turnover death sentence; it is indicative of a high-performance environment that develops a sufficient number of internal leaders (in this case, those named to head chef of each restaurant, as an example) while "graduating" a surplus of individuals who have come to actualize their potential, and therefore have outgrown their current roles. This is a great *problem* to have because it creates a virtuous cycle in which "average" talent is transformed into "above-average" talent with coaching & expectation-setting, and the organization's reputation for developing leaders (think GE) attracts the best & brightest. Thanks for this great piece, Mike!

Best,

-Aaron Ziff
