Thanks Robin! That's a great observation and a definite warning sign that there may be conflict in the workplace - particularly when you see people starting to take sides. You might even see small groups of indivduals talking amongst themselves and then suddenly becoming quiet or appearing to be uncomfortable when others, such as the leader, approach the group.

Yes, indeed - workplace conflict can be a big issue! From my experience handling HR at a small internet company, one of the big warning signs I'd start to see more when things weren't going well was a swell in the grapevine rumblings - many employees would do more complaining to each other (and then people would start picking sides) as opposed to directly bringing the issues up with a manager or other leader to work to address them.
